Soccer! (2008)
On October 5th, 2008, The People's Commission for Sports as Public Art organized a game of soccer (promoted with the tag-line "reclaim public space") on Granville Street in Vancouver's Granville Entertainment District. Dozens of people joined in and the game lasted approximately 3 hours. The game blocked traffic and temporarily altered the function of Vancouver's busiest commercial area. Live commentary was delivered over a megaphone.
The numbers on players' backs corresponded to the years of previous Olympic Games. A legend was handed out to spectators that described Olympic injustices year by year, including the already present detrimental effects of the upcoming 2010 Games in Vancouver.
